The Key Purpose of this role is to operate the manual brewing plant and processes not associated with PLC control, execute maintenance and asset care activities in support of the Brewing Technician Artisan, and assist in performing quality control checks to ensure product quality, plant reliability, and adherence to AB InBev standards.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Shift-Based Production Performance and Processes
- Operate designated plant and equipment in line with work instructions.
- Monitor specific production processes on shift within brewing sub-departments.
- Ensure process quality, productivity, and adherence to safety standards.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment at all times.
- Coordinate autonomous maintenance and cleaning activities.
Shift Team Performance
- Communicate effectively within the team and across shifts to ensure smooth handovers and consistent process performance.
- Actively participate in shift meetings, contributing suggestions and improvement ideas.
Administration and Reporting
- Apply administration systems and procedures accurately and timeously.
- Record waste, process performance, and quality results on appropriate information systems.
- Ensure documentation for production and maintenance is completed and filed correctly.
Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement
- Apply problem-solving and decision-making techniques to resolve process issues.
- Utilize VPO tools and practices (e.g., 5 Why’s, Quick Fix, FFA) to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Identify sources of waste and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintenance of Plant and Equipment
- Perform in-depth cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of equipment as per autonomous maintenance schedules.
- Carry out simple maintenance tasks (e.g., replacement of basic valves) and escalate major issues to the Process Artisan or Team Leader.
- Identify defective plant components and report promptly for resolution.
Quality Control and Analysis
- Execute required quality checks and analyses as per work instructions.
- Record results in the appropriate system and ensure compliance with process quality standards.
- Respond rapidly to quality deviations or production triggers that could impact product integrity.
Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and comply with PPE requirements.
- Identify unsafe practices and take corrective action immediately.
- Contribute to a safe workplace culture by following VPO and DPO safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12/Equivalent (High School Diploma).
- Machine specific experience.
- 2–5 years’ experience in a brewing or process-controlled manufacturing environment, ideally within FMCG.
- CAP/SKAP training completed and summatively assessed within 12 months.
- IBD Certificate (Advantageous).
- Completed Brewing Learnership (Advantageous).
